“All My Life You Have Been Faithful”

CeCe Winans sings a song entitled “Goodness of God,” with a group of singers and musicians. It’s live out of Nashville, TN and there is a blue background. I wanted to share this with you and hope you’ll be as blessed as I have been! I set it up as full screen.

Joy in Writing

Monday night I searched files to see what I would bring to a new writers group I got invited to earlier this year. I chose a devotional I sent out in 2016. I’d been tracking it for quite a while and then I got busy with other things and let it go. I thought: if I bring a devotional that is already published, it probably won’t need much critiquing. So, I got online to check e-mail and sure enough, an announcement from the publisher said they’d accepted the devotional and the tentative date was for September 25, 2016. If you want to check it out I’ve included the link here: http://www.christiandevotions.us/viewblogentry/833

It’s called “For the Love of a Daughter.”

That made my night and then when I found the tucked away home of the writer who invited me, I prayed that it would go well. The last critique group I attended had a writer who criticized my Bible study, Chapter One so harshly, I left wondering if I was delusional and if any talent I thought I had really belonged in the land of dreams. I looked to the leader of the group for a suggestion to lighten up or to be kind, but she remained mute. As I headed home, I thought God said in His still small voice, “I didn’t call you to this group.”

This past year I ran into the leader of the group at a library gathering to hear a poet, and she invited me to attend the writers meeting they host there. I told her “Thank you for asking me,” as I pocketed the slip of paper with the time and day they meet. A Christian friend saw the exchange and encouraged me to join them; she had recently started to attend. I told her I’d pray about it, and I did. I didn’t sense any leading to be a part of their meetings and then this opportunity arose.Writing Groups(photo from http://www.goodsearch.com/search-web?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=writers+group+photos&button=)

The members of the home town gathering may be different by now. Maybe that particular author didn’t feel well that day and so she got cranky over my offering. I don’t know. What I do know is that the group on Monday night was gracious and did line-by-line critiquing where necessary, grammatical editing and gave suggestions on the flow of the work. One lady is beginning a novel and I told her I wanted more description, less telling and more showing without actually using those words. What I did tell her was that I wanted to see what her interaction with her grandmother was like. I wanted her to set the scene.

One of the writers asked me what type of article was I writing, where did I picture it being published? I wrote an essay on health for mature readers, but the market I thought I’d send it to seems to be out of business now.

Then the published author thanked me for making it out and for the contributions I added. She and the others blessed me and I hoped I could bless them. Now that I’ve met them, I’m going to bring a more substantial project. We each had fifteen minutes for the reading of the piece and then the comments from the other wordsmiths. I hope we’re able to continue for a long while. We’ll see what the Lord has in mind for us. I’ve wanted a writer’s group for a number of months. I’ve learned that God’s timing is best. Isaiah_40:31, (KJV) says:  “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

May God bless you.

Flexible Moments

My daughter called today to see if I could head north to fill in for an unexpected childcare need.

I got ready to go and had half the stuff needed in the car for a sleep over when she called to say one of her appointments wasn’t going to work out. So I quickly backed out when she said I could still come up for a visit.

I had started to clear the pantry before leaving. I also wanted to grocery shop, so even though I was disappointed, I re-adjusted my plans back to the original.

Then, just before I left the house a second time, a good friend called to catch up and we spoke for almost an hour. I did some straightening while we visited, so that was a plus.

The weather forecasters said we were in for a big storm tonight and tomorrow, so I felt better about staying home after I heard that. Some of the store shelves were empty, especially in the produce section. The first time I saw empty shelves at our store I was startled. It’s a rare occurrence. People must have shopped earlier because the store wasn’t that busy.

Sometimes I thank God for His provision because I’m mindful that some people face hunger due to shortages where they live or because of a lack of money to buy food. It’s a wonderful thing when people help others out. Jesus spoke of helping the poor. Matthew 25:31, (KJV):  When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Mat 25:32  And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

Mat 25:33  And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Mat 25:34  Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 25:35  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Mat 25:36  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Mat 25:37  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

Mat 25:38  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Mat 25:39  Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

Mat 25:40  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

I hope you are having a great day. May God bless you.

Seek God First

I was spending some quiet time with the Lord today and I got reminded of Matthew chapter six. Verses nineteen through thirty-four speak in a comparative manner of collecting treasures on earth and laying up treasures in heaven. Jesus reminds us that God provides for us. I included the verses here because many times over the weeks I’ve sensed God reminding me to seek Him. He is the eternal reality. This life on earth is short and the older I get the more I’m aware of it.

Mat 6:19, (ESV)  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,

Mat 6:20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Mat 6:21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Mat 6:22  “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light,

Mat 6:23  but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

Mat 6:24  “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Mat 6:25  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

Mat 6:26  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Mat 6:27  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

Mat 6:28  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,

Mat 6:29  yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Mat 6:30  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Mat 6:31  Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

Mat 6:32  For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

Mat 6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Mat 6:34  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

When I read Proverbs, it talks disparagingly of slothfulness and it reminds people to leave an inheritance to their children. In the book of Second Thessalonians it says in the English Standard Version at 2Th_3:10  For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

2Th_3:11  For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.

2Th_3:12  Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

The Apostle Paul is aware of Jesus’ teachings and he’s not contradicting Jesus, but he’s addressing a problem with some of the believers. They were so convinced that Jesus was returning immediately that they didn’t think they needed to work. Jesus said don’t let money be your master. Let God be your master and He will provide. One of the ways He provides is by giving us work to do so we can earn a living. I think that’s pretty clear. My husband has preached that work is not a part of the curse in the book of Genesis. The curse for farmers came after the fall in the addition of weeds and thistles and the ground not cooperating.

Even though we live in a fallen world, unlike anything at the beginning of the Creation, Jesus is saying if we seek God first then we need not worry about provision. If we focus on God first, then the earthly stuff that we need will come our way through opportunities, ideas that flourish, through gifts from others, etc. The Jewish people are God’s chosen people and one of the issues that causes jealousy against Jewish people that I’ve heard about is the fact that many worked hard, became scientists or comedians or business people and they prospered more than the rest of their neighbors. When God loves you, He likes to prosper you. Not every Jew or every Christian is rich. It can’t be that simplified, but God’s principles apply to everyone. Give and it shall be given unto you is a principle: Luke_6:38  “give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

If you help the poor or give to a cause near and dear to God’s heart, He will bless you. It’s repeated in Scripture and it may be more than about money.

I’ve found Him worth seeking, anyway.

Well, I hope you are blessed today and forever.

Events in a Day

I woke up this morning with chores and responsibilities on my mind. After I ate some breakfast, I started doing some of them, but I wanted to get into the Word. I looked for a Bible study book and did some short items on my list here and there.

Later, I began hunting online for a Dragon Speak system by Nuance for my computer because after placing an ad in the Shopper, a man called for me to transpose something and to do some light editing. He wanted to know how fast a typist I am, and I had to tell him that I don’t know. I write about six days a week and type most of those days, so I’m not a slow typist. My sister is a professional typist and I mentioned that I am not as fast as she is. So, he told me he had this Dragon Speak system on his computer that enables him to speak the information into it, so he doesn’t have to type it all out from the notebooks.

I asked why he doesn’t keep at it. He doesn’t have the time. He’s hired me to do this project for him and he bought the software for my computer, an upgraded version than his own since I’m a writer. I gotta tell you. I felt blessed by God. He went on to say that in his business he does not buy items that are used by householders. He buys professional quality.  Then he paid by PayPal, so I had to set up a business account to receive payments from customers. That took some time.

Around five-thirty, my husband left for a meeting and I got thinking I’d start supper for when he got home. He had a late lunch. I called my daughter to see how her day was going and she asked if she’d called me. “No.”

“I wanted to invite you to a ladies’ house that is hosting a Bible study with a missionary couple from India. It’s dish to pass for the evening meal.”

“What time is the meeting?” I asked. At 6:30.

I had started a sink full of dishes that I was determined to finish. I told her I’d show up, but I might be late. So, I started a rice dish for the gathering and a crockpot of soup for my husband’s supper. He likes soup. Cut up an onion for this pot, cut more for the crockpot. Add butter and oil to the onions on the stove for the rice dish and stir like mad. Leave that and start chopping carrots and celery.

Then the phone rings. It’s my daughter. Can I pick up my son-in-law at the grocery store? His car died. Okay, tell him I’ll be at least ten minutes.

Later on, in the dark I find my son-in-law’s car easily enough and he’s inside. He brings his store bought salads since they both worked that day. As we get closer to the home, I begin to realize that I haven’t been there in such a long time, that I would have gotten lost. He knows the way.

Sunday night his car broke down, so they attended our evening service at church. They said it was a God ordained breakdown. They were tired and would have driven right past our building and gone home.

Tonight, as I dropped him off I told him if he hadn’t been in the car, I would have been in trouble. He said it was another God ordained breakdown and he was sure his car would start. I waited to see. It started up immediately and off he went. They almost bought a car a few weeks ago, and God prevented them from buying it, it was a scam. Fortunately, they bought the wrong kind of pre-payment card and the scammers couldn’t cash those. The company refunded all of their money. God watches over them!

I didn’t intend to go to a Bible study, but I got blessed big time. I hope if your day gets rearranged by the Lord or by circumstances beyond your control that it will work out for good.

Romans 8:28 is one of my favorite verses:  Rom 8:28, (KJV)  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

May God bless you.
